BOSS MOM

It all started when…

Glambar prides itself on encouraging and supporting boss moms on a daily basis. There is no one more deserving of a shout out than this women Lauren Linville.

I first met Lauren when I photographed  her husband, Ian, for 15 years and their two crazy boys, Lyden (7) and Preston (4).

Lauren Linville is the Founder of Optimum Consulting, which is local South Florida emergency, disaster and facility management firm. Lauren’s goal is dedicated to helping clients prepare, plan, and recover from disasters. “I want clients to focus on what matters the most in an emergency…protecting their livelihood and families,” says Lauren.

Lauren has  over 15 years of Emergency Management experience, she has worked on multiple natural disasters such as: Hurricanes Dorian, Matthew, Harvey, Irma and Maria. Emergency planning is Lauren’s passion and she holds over 15 emergency management related certificates.

In addition to her accomplishments, Lauren is the co-developer of Gatherlater.com; a site dedicated to helping local small business owners, which is also 100% donated by Lauren. (ANOTHER REASON WE LOVE HER)

She has also served in the United States Coast Guard for 15 years and was recently selected to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Lauren is currently stationed in Cape Cod, Massachusetts as a Senior Command Executive. (HOW BAD *SS IS THIS!)

It is hard to imagine she has any time to do anything else, but she finds time to volunteer with local community work. How? I have no idea. She currently serves as the executive board member for the Beacon for Change (beaconforchange.org); a non-profit geared to those effective in the Bahamas by Hurricane Dorian. She was appointed by the Coconut Creek Commission in 2019 as the first female Chair of the Public Safety Advisory Board for the City of Coconut Creek and re-appointed for 2020.

We asked Lauren what is her advice for other working moms to balance both worlds the best she can.

Her advice

“People always ask me, how do you do it all? My response is, I don’t – No one does. But time management is the key to my success. Also, you can’t guilt yourself for wanting more. As moms, we can be so hard on ourselves and feel that everyone is judging us. I know it’s hard, but don’t allow that to affect your goals. Pick your battles and give yourself some wins along the way. My happiness is just as important as my families and that not only makes me a better mom and business owner, but a better person.”

Future goals:

What are some of your Future goals?

“I love teaching and have my sights to further my education to become a professor. I also would love to publish a book! I have been slowly (very slowly) writing a book about grit and pushing through obstacles. I had a tough upbringing and did not come up in an environment of privilege. It has taken a lot of sacrifice to get to this point. I would love to inspire others to keep pushing – You will reach your goals!

I would also love to run for office (one day). I think serving is the ultimate way to give back to our community and country. I feel so grateful to a country that has given me so many opportunities – It’s one of the reasons I love putting on my uniform.”

Something you didn’t know about me?

“The Coast Guard saved my life and without it I wouldn’t be where I am today - I encourage every young person to consider it.”

I have a pilots license.

I love singing and enjoy playing the piano; which I hardly have time to do.

Hiking and outdoors is my favorite thing to do.

I’m at the most peace when I can sit with my glass of wine/ coffee and look at the mountains or watch a fire.
